Early orthodontic treatment

We recommend children have their first orthodontic visit between 7 and 8 years old. If your child has dental irregularities, we can use early intervention treatments to correct and guide their jaw/teeth so that they grow optimally. This will save time and money later on in life when their mouth and jaw are already fully developed.

What treatments are available for early intervention?

At Haney Orthodontics, we have a wide variety of treatments available to help correct orthodontic irregularities in children. After your child has come in for a free consultation, we will discuss whether or not they would benefit from “Phase One” treatment. If so, we will work together to create a treatment plan that will gently address their unique issues and set them up for success as a teen and adult.

Invisalign® First

Invisalign® First is an exciting new system for early intervention orthodontics. Using 3D iTero scan technology, and virtually invisible clear aligners, this system gradually guides teeth into their ideal positions. Invisalign® First aligners are clear, removable, easy to use, and discreet. Come in for a free consultation to see if your child is a candidate for treatment.

Expanders

During your child’s first examination, our orthodontist will check to see if there is adequate space for all their adult teeth to grow in. If he notes a spacing issue, he may suggest an expander treatment to help the jaw develop correctly. An expander is a device placed behind the top row of teeth that gently guides the palate to develop correctly and with enough space for healthy teeth.

Spacers

Spacers act as “space holders” for adult teeth that have not yet erupted. Your child’s orthodontist might recommend these if he suspects inadequate space for certain teeth, or if crowding is already present. These look similar to a retainer and are worn for a certain amount of time each day.

Braces/partial braces

If major orthodontic irregularities are present, your child’s orthodontist may suggest braces. In children, brackets are generally placed on specific teeth to help mold the teeth, mouth, and jaw into an ideal position. We offer both metal and clear options.
