Benefits of
pediatric orthodontics

Childhood is considered the best time to undergo orthodontic treatment. Since the teeth, mouth, and jaw are still developing in children and teens, it is easier for our specialist to manipulate and guide their growth. We always recommend starting young if possible so that the results last a lifetime.

Here are some of the many benefits of pediatric orthodontics:

  • Enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Improved social confidence
  • Increased likelihood of proper jaw alignment
  • Reduced risk of grinding, cavities, and gum disease
  • Reduced risk of crowding and impaction
  • Faster treatment than in adult orthodontics
  • Supported speech and vocal ability

Generally, children and teens respond well to orthodontic treatment and we work really hard to create a relaxed, friendly, and enjoyable experience for our young patients.

Does my
child need braces?

Here are some signs that your child may need braces and/or other orthodontic support.

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Crooked adult teeth
  • Trouble chewing/biting
  • Bruxism (grinding)
  • Frequent mouth breathing
  • Prolonged thumb/finger sucking
  • Crowded teeth
  • Extra teeth
  • Cheek biting
  • Spacing between adult teeth
  • Abnormal jaw alignment
  • Overbite/underbite/side-bite

If your child shows any of the above signs, an orthodontic screening may be extremely beneficial. It is easier for our specialist to correct problems with the mouth and teeth early in life as the jaw is still developing.

Early intervention treatments may include braces/partial braces, Invisalign® First, spacers, and/or expanders. You can learn more in your child’s consultation.
