Early orthodontic treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic appointment between 7 and 8 years of age. If your child is showing signs of dental irregularities, we can use early intervention treatments to correct and guide their teeth and jaws, allowing them to grow optimally.

Expanders

During your child’s first examination, our orthodontist will check to see if there is adequate space for all of their adult teeth to grow in comfortably and correctly. If he notes a spacing issue, he may suggest an expander treatment to help the jaw develop correctly. An expander is a device that is placed behind the top row of teeth and gently guides the palate to develop correctly and with enough space for healthy adult teeth.

Spacers

Spacers act as “space holders” for adult teeth that haven't erupted yet. Our orthodontist might recommend these if he suspects a lack of space for certain teeth, or if crowding is already present. These look similar to a retainer and are worn for a certain amount of time each day.

Braces or Partial Braces

If major orthodontic irregularities are present, Dr. Haney may suggest braces. Typically in children, brackets are placed on specific teeth to help guide the teeth, mouth, and jaw into the ideal position. We offer both metal and clear options for children.
