At Haney Orthodontics, we are prepared to handle orthodontic emergencies if they arise during your treatment. Orthodontic care does not normally lead to oral emergencies, but if something does come up, we are available to help. Our phone number is 415-453-7880.

What should I do if I have an orthodontic emergency?

If something unexpected happens concerning your mouth or orthodontic equipment, it may be necessary to come to the clinic for an emergency appointment. If you are unsure whether or not your problem warrants an emergency visit, give our office a call and we will help.

If you or your child is in imminent danger, please visit your local emergency room immediately.

Once the situation is under control, you can contact us for additional help.

What should I do if I have an orthodontic emergency?

Minor orthodontic problems

Most problems that might arise during your treatment will be minor, and many can be handled at home. You are always welcome to contact or visit our clinic if you are concerned but to save you a trip we can also walk you through some common problems on the phone.

Some minor orthodontic issues may include:

  • Loose brackets
  • Broken brackets
  • Pointy wires, ties, or brackets that are causing irritation or bleeding
  • Toothaches
  • Loose teeth
  • Mild soreness
  • Lost aligners
  • Hygiene trouble
  • Small sores on the tongue or gums

If you are experiencing one of these minor orthodontic-related issues, give our office a call during business hours and we will help to suggest what you can do. If you need to come in, we will create an appointment for you at your earliest convenience.

In the rare case that you experience a true orthodontic emergency, please contact us right away.

If you or your child are in imminent danger, call 911 or go to the emergency room first. Once the situation is under control, you can contact us

An orthodontic emergency may include:

  • Trauma to the face, mouth, jaw, and/or teeth
  • Severe, unresolved pain in the mouth and/or face
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Infection in the mouth and gums
  • Obstructive swelling on the face or in the mouth
  • Trouble breathing
