Types of braces
For many orthodontic patients, braces are one of the most common ways to achieve a straight, bright smile. While traditional, fixed braces are a popular choice of treatment for patients of all ages, there are a range of alternatives too.
Learn more about the different types of braces available here at Haney Orthodontics.

Traditional
metal braces
Traditional metal braces consist of small metal brackets which are fitted to the front of your teeth with an archwire connecting them. These wires are held in place by small elastic bands attached to the brackets. They encourage the teeth into alignment by applying gentle pressure.
Metal braces are a very effective straightening option and are suitable for use in many orthodontic cases. With orthodontic technology advancing all the time, these metal braces are much more discreet and comfortable to wear than many people may think.

Fixed vs.
Removable braces
Fixed and removable appliances are two very different forms of orthodontic treatment. Fixed appliances, like metal braces, are attached to the teeth with brackets and bands, or cement and remain in place until treatment is complete.
Removable appliances, such as Invisalign® clear aligners, are typically worn between 22 and 24 hours per day and are easily taken off if needed.
There are benefits to both options and depends on your orthodontic need and personal preference. You will be able to discuss your options in your consultation.
